Special to The Newscaster by Rick Rubrigi, Tax Professional
Welcome everyone to the new year which means a new tax season. As always, I
will be at your service to prepare and inform you about your tax obligations. I pride myself
on individual professional service for a lower cost.
This year, due to the late revisions in President Obama’s plan on December 17,
2010, there are some changes in filing that you should be aware of. First and foremost is
that anyone who has to use itemized deductions (Schedule A), college education expenses
and tuition fees (form 8917) and teacher/educator expense ($250 deduction prior) will have
to wait until at least mid February before the IRS can accept these types of returns. The IRS
must update the proper forms to correspond to the new provisions.
Also, there is a huge change in Rapid Refunding of returns. The banks that are used
for these refunds will only allow either a loan of $1000.00 or maximum $1800.00 for your
initial (next day) refund. The remaining monies due you will come usually in 8-15 days af-
ter your first check is distributed. The cost for this service has increased also and the banks
are making it more difficult to get qualified for the next day refund loan. Reasoning is that
banks have been taking a tremendous hit with false claims, back child support delinquen-
cies, and other reasons for taxpayers owing the government funds.
There is some good news though. The IRS has increased Earned Income Credit,
and has retained the Work for Pay credit (up to $400 for singles, $800 for couples) from last
year. Those are probably the biggest 2 changes that will affect the majority of tax filers this
year.
As always, I am here to answer any of your questions on tax issues and would be
happy to sit with you and discuss your taxes. My business hours are Monday thru Friday
9am to 4pm and Saturday from 9 am to 2pm. I am located at 167 Hwy 40 West (Chamber
of Commerce Building) in Inglis, FL. Walk-Ins are welcomed but it is best to make an ap-
pointment. Call me, Rick Rubrigi, at 352-447-3383.

The Williams Excavating company of Ohio, however, was successful in reforming
the pipes and allowing the pump problem to be solved without having to dig them out from
