Home Fire Fatal for Hernando Man
Remembering the Past
The Citrus County Sheriff s Office Fire Rescue Division responded to a report of
a fire at a residence located at 2225 E. Kennett Dr., Hernando, FL. The fire was out upon
dispatch. Preliminary investigation suggested the incident was the result of a combination
of an oxygen enriched atmosphere and possible use of smoking materials. Monday Jan 14,
about 5:30am. The deceased was on the couch when the fire occurred.
Mr. Power s wife advised she was in bed asleep when she was awakened by the
smoke alarm. She went to investigate and observed a small fire in the close proximity of the
deceased (Francis Powers – 63 years old). She extinguished the small fire with water. Depu-
ties on the scene were investigating the death.
The fire caused minimal damage to the immediate area of the approximate 1,700
square foot home. Damages were estimated at $500 to the structure, carpeting.
The Citrus Sheriff Fire/Rescue advises utilizing portable oxygen units near ignition sources
is very dangerous. Even though oxygen is non combustible, it supports and helps sparks or
fires grow larger very quickly. Smoking or other sources of ignition must be segregated from
oxygen enriched areas.
The historic redbrick Classic Revival style Levy County Court House in Bronson was built in
1937. Designed by architect Henry L Taylor and built by O R Woodcock. It was the third court-
house built in Bronson and some materials were salvaged and used from the old 1906 court-
house. Photo from Sally Price history.
Food Ranch Changes

says the change will have a positive affect on the meat department. “We will maintain the
highest quality of beef, pork or chicken we will sell and it does look like our lunch meat,
bacon, sausage and cold cuts will be a little better priced. We know the overall quality will
be better than ever”, said Henderson.
The Food Ranch is still owned by Chip Webb who built the store and shopping
center in 1985. The Webb family is a longtime Levy County family.
