An Inverness crash  7:09 pm, on Sat., Jan. 17, proved fatal to pedestrian
was walking in the northbound lane of S. Bea Ave., south of the intersection with State Rd.
44. The pedestrian was Charles L. Osterland, III, 54, of Inverness. The vehicle involved in
the crash was a 1999 Ford F250 truck, and the driver was William H. Wallen, II, 44, also of
Inverness, who was traveling north on S. Bea Ave., also south of the intersection with State
Rd. 44. Mr.Wallen swerved left, in an attempt to avoid the pedestrian, but he was unsuccess-
ful, and the front right of the truck struck Mr. Osterland. The truck came to a controlled stop,
and Mr. Osterland was propelled to the eastern grass shoulder. He sustained fatal injuries
and expired at the scene of the crash.

Day was charged with 8 counts of felony animal cruelty, 1 count for each dog on
the property ($16,000 bond), 10 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty, 1 count for each of
the remaining animals on the property ($10,000 bond) and resisting an officer without vio-
lence, due to impeding the investigation ($1,000).
Animal control officers seized a total of 20 animals, including dogs, chickens, tur-
keys, a rabbit, pigs and parrots. All are at the Citrus County Animal Shelter.
