Cats Are Like
Children

I lost a cat (that
was a beloved family mem-
ber) but adopted two new
kittens; and  I am plan-
ning a cruise with family
members this week-end. I
have some watering tricks
I plan to deploy to ensure
the health of my plants, but I am at a loss
as what to do about preparing my home
to make it safe for my two new family
members while I am away. Never hav-
ing had children I was not really aware of
how important it is to “safeguard” your
home against . . . well babies.
Yesterday I was on the porch
reading my book, my favorite past-
time. I heard the most awful commotion
in the house. Our house is built up off the
ground with a 1-1/2 ft. crawl space un-
derneath; the sub floor is constructed
of six by two inch planks. There is in-
