Remembering the Past
Brewster was being transported to a local hospital. 911 operators told Deputy A. Breed-
ing that Brewster was unresponsive. Deputy Breeding responded to the hospital where
he learned that Brewster was suffering from a brain bleed (hemorrhage) and on a ventila-
tor. LCSO Investigators M. Wilkinson and Sgt. M. Narayan responded to the hospital and
learned that Brewster was in critical condition.
As Wilkinson and Narayan delved further into the investigation, they learned that
Adams and Brewster had been in a dispute over drugs and money, and the altercation be-
tween the two had actually occurred at 347 Debra St., Inglis. On Jan. 4, witnesses reported
that Adams had struck Brewster multiple times in the face with his closed fist, and after
the two were separated by witnesses, Adams had fled. According to Brewster's friends and
boyfriend, her condition continued to worsen throughout the evening, that Brewster lost
consciousness and was having difficulty breathing. They contacted emergency medical ser-
vices, which transported her to an area hospital.
Based on Brewster's medical condition and the statements of witnesses, Investiga-
tor Wilkinson filed for and obtained a warrant for Adams on a charge of felony battery. About
1:45 pm, Jan. 4, Investigator Wilkinson received information from hospital staff members
that efforts to save Brewster's life had failed, and she had expired from her injuries.
Deputies were still attempting to locate Adams. About 10:15 pm, Jan. 4, Adams
was located in Levy County and taken into custody. He is being held at the Levy County
Detention Facility with his bond set at $500,000.
LCSO investigators have met with members of the 8th Circuit Medical Examiner's
Office and the 8th Judicial Assistant State Attorney s Office. The investigation is still ongo-
ing, and updates will be announced as they become available.
